E-books vs Printed Books

As a new author, I am constantly learning about the publishing industry. I spoke to my publisher today and she advised me that it will be available as an e-book and that the “launch” should be around mid-September. As exciting as that all seems, I had to get clarification on each and twenty minutes later, I had that “Aha” moment like a bolt of lightning from the sky. Now being in my mid-sixties, I am aware of Nooks and Kindles. A few years ago, they were the rage. I saw people reading the latest best seller on buses, airplanes and cruise ships. I was told that it was the greatest invention since the flip phone! It was small enough to fit in a purse, you can carry it anywhere and you could read any book you chose. Quick an easy for sure!

Now, the question is why didn’t I ever buy one? There actually is a very simple answer. I am “old school” when it comes to reading. I like the feel of a book between my two hands. I like to turn pages. I like to know how far I’ve read and how many pages I have left to read. Lastly, I dread to admit, that if I don’t have a bookmark, I turn down the page!!! Judge me if you want, but I like it! It feels good!

Now interestingly enough as I continue to learn about the industry, there are articles that say that e-books have fallen 17% in the last three years and real book purchases have risen almost 10%. I also read that there will be an unfortunate demise of brick and mortar book stores in lieu of on-line shopping. I can not even try to figure this all out, but the good news is that my book, “The Fabulous Feats of Mr. B” will be available as an e-book and a real illustrated paperback book. I hope you sign up on the website (www.brucepweinberg.com) for blasts about the upcoming launch. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and comments about anything that I’ve posted.
